Discovered while roaming through the forest near Schönberg. Beautiful idyllic place to relax and let go. The water in the pond was crystal clear.

Black Pond at Kapellenberg

Highlight • Lake

The black pond is the highest spring on the Kapellenberg. A bog is already forming (raised bog). The humic acid kills all life. The black pond plays a role in the "legend of the white woman drinking" (see pictures).

April 3, 2024,# 23/24 👞 Kapellenberg – Elsterquelle Runde von Schönberg
Today @Telenorm, my brother and I went on a fantastic hike. Lots of photos - but it's worth looking at them and reading the additional information text.

From Schönberg over the Kapellenberg we went to the Elsterquelle (River Weiße Elster) and back again on the Czech side. A wonderful region with lots of forest, great panoramas, wonderful views and something …

Today a recommended hike from the chapel mountain to the Elsterquelle, the chapel mountain tower is well maintained and offers a beautiful view, the paths in the forest are just great, parts of the VPW included. Saw beautiful trails, I think I have to take my bike in that direction.

A very nice round, with a well-kept rest stop in Vyhledy (CZ)
Sometimes we were off the signposted hiking trails.
There is a parking lot below the chapel hill.
The chapel mountain tower was open and entry cost 2 euros per person.

After looking out the window, the cycling plans were quickly thrown out the window this morning. Too dark, too gloomy. ☹️
The only options left were hiking boots or the couch at home. The latter had been tortured enough this week, so it was time for hiking boots! After some back and forth, the destination was set around midday! 😅 …

📸 Today's round started a little later than usual because my wife 🙎‍♀️ wasn't really up to it, she actually wanted to do a final bike 🚴 tour, but since the weather 🌥️ looked relatively gloomy, we decided to go on a hike together to the Elsterquelle, which had been on our Toodoo list for a while.

The Kapellenberg is a prominent elevation in the Eger Basin. At 759 meters above sea level, it offers an excellent viewing point. The Elster spring is located about 6 km from the town of Asch in the Czech Republic. A monument was erected at the spring in 1898. Benches have been provided as a place to rest; unfortunately, the spring …
