Schiller Museum and Residence, Weimar

Highlight • Historical Site

In 1802, Schiller and his family moved into a house on the Esplanade that was built in 1777. He had it remodeled and after his death in 1805, his wife lived there until 1826. In 1847, the city of Weimar acquired the building, opened the first poet's memorial in Germany and in 1988 combined it with a new museum building, which now shows temporary exhibitions.

You can find more information and opening times here: klassik-stiftung.de/schillers-wohnhaus.

City Church of St. Peter and Paul (Herder Church)
City church rich in works of art
Together with the Herder House and Garden and the neighboring Old Gymnasium, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Classical Weimar". The origins of the City Church of St. Peter and Paul go back to the time when the city was founded. A separate parish was formed for the urban settlement, which was established around the middle of the 13th century. Martin Luther preached here at the time of the Reformation. The church got its current interior appearance after the Second World War, in which it was badly damaged.
It was re-consecrated in 1953. Thomas Mann also donated to the reconstruction - the prize money from the Goethe Prize, which he was awarded in Weimar in 1949. The church is richly decorated with works of art. In addition to the Cranach altar and the Luther triptych, there are numerous bronze and stone gravestones of members of the royal family.

Goethe's Garden House

Highlight • Historical Site

Goethe's garden house in the park on the Ilm River near Weimar was the poet's first residence in Weimar. Here you can see original furnishings from all phases of Goethe's life. Particularly impressive are the poet's standing desk with its stool and the garden he designed. Unfortunately, access to the building and garden is restricted.
