Bright Angel Trailhead

Highlight • Trail

One of the two corridor trails in Grand Canyon with stunning views into the canyon itself. You just have to go some miles... but not too far, since you have to walk up all the way back. If you are an experienced and ambitious hiker, you can do a multiday hike into the canyon from Bright Angel Trailhead. Moreover this is the end of a Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim backpacking adventure. Note that you will need to have a backcountry permit! Permits for the so-called corridor trails are very popular, so make sure you apply four month prior to your trip. You can find more information visiting: nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/backcountry-permit.htm

Bus shuttle will get you to and from the trailhead into Grand Canyon Village with connections to Tusayan and the backcountry office, where you can park you car for a backcountry adventure.

Hopi Point viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

Hopi Point is an amazing view point into the depth of the Grand Canyon. Since it is the northernmost spot in the area of the canyon, you will be able to see as far as 20 miles. Look closely and you can see Havasupai Point and the Great Scenic Divide. Around 2,000 feet below is Dana Butte and you might spot some hikers on the Tonto Trail down there.

This view point is even more stunning around sunset. To get here, take the red route shuttle and get off the bus at stop number four.

Mohave Point

Highlight • Viewpoint

Great spot for viewing the sunset over the Grand Canyon. You also have a perfect view on the Tonto Trail, that winds its way deep down in the canyon. You can reach Mohave Point either by hiking the Rim Trail or by taking the shuttle bus from or to Hermits Rest.

The Abyss

Highlight • Viewpoint

Impressive view into the depths of the Grand Canyon. There is also a bench where you can enjoy the canyon a little longer. You can reach The Abyss either by hiking the Rim Trail or by taking the shuttle bus from or to Hermits Rest. If you are okay with heights, take the dirt trail on the very edge of the Rim instead of the Greenway Trail which is paved.

Pima Point

Highlight • Viewpoint

At Pima Point, you can both see and hear the rumbling Colorado River with the Hermit Rapids in sight. You can reach Pima Point either by hiking the Rim Trail or if you take the shuttle bus to Hermits Rest.

View from the Rim Trail

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Rim Trail leads along the South Rim for about 14 miles and offers some of the best views into the Grand Canyon. The western endpoint is Hermit's Rest, the eastern endpoint is the South Kaibab Trailhead. The trail is mainly paved, but especially in the west there is still a narrow hiking trail along the edge of the canyon.

Hermit's Rest

Highlight • Monument

Hermits Rest is the end point of the red shuttle line. From here you can start a hike back on the Rim Trail or a hike into the Grand Canyon on the Hermit Trail which intersects with the Boucher Trail or finally leads to the Tonto Trail after many miles and loss of elevation.

There are restrooms, drinking fountains and a gift shop that also sells maps of the area at Hermits Rest.

South Kaibab Trailhead

Highlight • Trail

The South Kaibab Trailhead is leading to one of the two corridor trails through the Grand Canyon: the South Kaibab Trail. There is no parking at the trailhead. To get here, you have to take the shuttle (orange line) that starts at the visitors center. There are restrooms at the trailhead and a water spigot. If you plan to hike down the canyon, take plenty of water with you and avoid the heat. There is no shade or water source on the trail. Be aware that the way down is the easy part. Always remember that you have to climb all the way out.

The South Kaibab Trail is also part of the 800 mile Arizona National Scenic Trail that stretches from the Mexican border to Utah stateline.
