Church of St. Francis of Assisi

Highlight • Religious Site

In 1892, a church construction committee was founded. In the years 1904–1906, a church (brickyard in Kadyny) was erected according to the design by August Menken. On December 4, 1906, the building was consecrated by the bishop of Chełmno, Augustyn Rosentreter.

In 1942, the two smallest bells were requisitioned by the German authorities. In 1945, during military operations, the following were destroyed: the tower, the clock, the roof, the vault, three altars, stained glass windows, an organ with 32 stops, part of the walls, the heating system, and the storm drainage. In the years 1946–1948, the building was partially rebuilt and on March 28, 1948, it was re-consecrated by the apostolic administrator, Father Andrzej Wronka.

New Town Hall (Nowy Ratusz), Gdańsk

Highlight • Historical Site

The New Town Hall in Gdańsk is an impressive building in the neo-Renaissance style, located at Wały Jagiellońskie. It was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as the seat of the Prussian garrison command. Currently, it houses the Gdańsk City Council and serves a representative function, including weddings. Interestingly, in the past, the famous Coastal Students' Club "Żak" operated here. The building, together with the adjacent park and the former stable, is entered in the register of historical monuments.

In the direction of Gdynia, you can go straight through Gdansk Wrzeszcz then you bypass the section leading along the beach which is equally interesting because we can visit other districts, e.g. Oliwa with a park and the cathedral

Willa Patschkego

Highlight • Historical Site

Patschke's Villa in Gdańsk, also known as Uphagena's Villa – one of the most characteristic residences in Gdańsk, at 23 Uphagena Street in Wrzeszcz, corner of Grunwaldzka Avenue, built by a Jewish merchant, commercial councillor and owner of the Springer liqueur factory (Gustav Springer Nachf. Likör Fabrik), Rudolf Patschke (1854–1932).

The residence was built in 1908–1909 at the then Uphagenweg 1 by the G. und J. Müller company from Elbląg. The interiors were decorated with majolica from Kadyny near Elbląg.

After World War II, the villa housed, among others, British Consulate (-1948), District Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz (1948-1956), management and editorial offices of the Polish Radio Gdańsk (1956-2000), Gdańsk Business Club (2000-)

Abegga Low-Cost Housing Colony

Highlight • Historical Site

In the years 1897-1906, a colony of cheap houses founded by the Abegga foundation was established in Strzyża Dolna. The following streets were marked out at that time (side from the current Grunwaldzka Street): Lichtstrasse (after the war, Kolejarzy), Piwkostrasse (Syrokomli), Petschowstrasse (in 1945, Stanisława Dubois, from 1946, Miedziana), Pfefferstrasse (in 1945, Czerwonego Sztandar, from 1946 Gomulicki), Henningstrasse (in 1945 Barlicki, from 1946 Czarna). This foundation was established under the will of the Gdańsk merchant Heinrich B. Abegg (1791-1868); after purchasing the land, it built cheap houses for workers and poorer officials and offered them for sale on favorable terms. These were characteristic low brick houses, usually with gardens.
