CFV3V Railway Museum Roundhouse

Highlight • Monument

The Chemins de Fer à Vapeur des 3 Vallées (CFV3V) is a tourist railway that has taken over a section of the former 132 railway line between Mariembourg and Treignes.
The departure point and workshop of the CFV3V is a 10-minute walk from Mariembourg station. There is a reception hall / canteen and a locomotive shed in a roundabout where you can see a lot of rail equipment. At the other end point in Treignes there is the former large border railway station and there is the only working hub in Belgium. A large shed has been built there where a museum has been set up and where the non-operating railway equipment of the CFV3V is displayed. There are three stops between Mariembourg and Treignes: Nismes, Olloy-sur-Viroin and Vierves. (Wikipedia)

Chimay Castle

Highlight • Castle

Chimay, before being known for its superb castle, its monastic life, and its famous beer, is above all a forest town. The town is located in a clearing overlooking the Ardennes forest. It is at the Notre-Dame de Scourmont Abbey that the Trappist Cistercian monks make beer and cheese.

Main Square of Chimay

Highlight • Settlement

It was probably in the middle of the 10th century that the Lord of Chimay founded a chapter of canons which will be at the origin of the Collegiate Church of Chimay, one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the Province of Hainaut.

In plan, the church includes a central nave of five bays bordered by narrower aisles onto which open an equal number of chapels installed between the buttresses. The oriented choir (1250), with a flat apse, comprises four bays, it is part of the architecture in use in Laonnais and Soissonnais. The rest of the building belongs to the Hainaut Gothic style characterized by great sobriety (15th century).

In the choir, we can still see a high altar in colored marble, a taulet from the end of the 15th century and the funeral plaques of the last two princely families.

The beautiful mausoleum of Charles de Croÿ, godfather of Charles V, 1st Prince of Chimay (died in 1527) is decorated with a superb alabaster recumbent figure.

The bulbous bell tower surmounting the tower erected from 1732 to 1742 houses a unique carillon. A real bell piano with a small keyboard, it has the particularity of not having an E flat. It has a total of 26 bells, the oldest of which dates from the 17th century.

Château de Boussu-en-Fagne

Highlight • Castle

Boussu-en-Fagnes Castle is a remarkable castle surrounded by a moat and a park. The castle dates from the 13th century and has witnessed many events, such as the destruction by the Prince of Orange in 1555, the witch trials in the 17th century and the French Revolution. You can explore the courtyard, towers and chapel of the castle, as well as the neighboring village of Boussu-en-Fagne, which has a rich prehistoric and medieval heritage. You can also enjoy the natural beauty of the Eau Blanche River and the Fagne region, which offer diverse landscapes and wildlife.
