Church of San Nicolò and Bell Tower

Highlight • Religious Site

Built in 1611 in place of the previous medieval building, the church of San Nicolò was profoundly restructured with "abundant late-Baroque superimpositions" in 1770 (at the time of Don Onorio Parpagiani) and finally restored in 1885 (at the time of Don Andrea Biffis) with the return to its original forms and the restoration of the ancient rectangular windows. Heavily damaged by the fury of the Great War (1918), it was restructured and embellished in 1921 (at the time of Don Carlo Tomio) to the point of being declared in 1984 "of historical and artistic interest" by the Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Heritage (during the managed by Don Pietro De Piccoli). Equipped with a cemetery in the churchyard since 1741 (later moved to its current location), it is flanked by a bell tower built in 1951 by Luigi Candiani da Mareno, characterized by a "square and austere tower" (O. Drusian) on which was placed in 2016 a watch.

Parish Church of San Nicolò di Busco

Highlight • Religious Site

Already in the century XII existed here in the locality currently called "abbey", a monastery founded by the Benedictines. From 1455 the abbey was given in commendation for almost three centuries to various personages until in 1746 it was returned to the monks - 1785 is the year of the suspension. The parish is very old but the era of its foundation is unknown. In the archive of the Episcopal Curia the documents (still surviving) of the appointment of parish priests begin in 1461. Busco is the matrix of Campo di Pietra - S. Nicolò di Candolè - S. Lorenzo della Bidoggia (suppressed in 1785) and Piavon. The merit of the foundation of all these parishes belongs to the Benedictine monks. It is recorded that at the beginning of the 1600s a new church was built in place of the old one and consecrated on the last Sunday of April 1622 by Bishop Leonardo Mocenigo. The current one was built in 1900 on the site of the previous one: Bishop Andrea Caron consecrated it in 1905. The bell tower dates back to 1932.
