Terracina

Highlight • Settlement

Terracina, in the central south of the province of Latina, is characterized by buildings from different eras that coexist with the more modern ones next to each other, and make Terracina one of the most fascinating cities in the province. Of very ancient origins, its original name was Anxur, a Volscian name as evidenced by ancient writers and the name of Jupiter as a child (Iupiter Anxur or Anxurus), the patron deity of the city, venerated on the mountain overlooking the city.
Legend has it that the origins of Terracina are due to a group of Spartan navigators who, having fled from Sparta, arrived on the coast and founded a village.

Unlike the other coastal lakes in the area, San Puoto Lake is the only freshwater lake.
Legend has it that the remains of the ancient city of Amyclae are found on its seabed.
The lake, which has a perimeter of just 2400 meters, is characterized by the presence of ornithic species subject to particular forms of protection, such as the little migratory heron Bittern and numerous birds of prey, there is no shortage of orchids.

Tiberius' Villa and Grotto

Highlight • Historical Site

The Villa of Tiberius is a large Roman villa that belonged to the Roman Emperor Tiberius.
Another note: if you take the hiking trail above the villa, take into account that there are stairs. Velotourers then have a bit of a difficult time! :-)

Arenauta Beach

Highlight • Beach

Arenauta beach is easily accessible from the road via the "300 steps" lido stairs (with a very nice bar!). About 300 meters south-east is the Arenauta beach. Comfortable and particularly beautiful: here you don't need a swimsuit if you don't want to. The beach is historically frequented by naturists.

Gaeta is very pretty and worth a visit. The most beautiful road to get there is the Flacca: it is a bit busy and there are 4 tunnels without lighting to go through (bring lights because they are dark), but the view it offers is very beautiful with rocks overlooking a crystalline sea and small beaches still uncontaminated.
