The Bicycle Museum is part of the Club Italia Musei Ciclismo and with the 170 pieces of the Sanvido Collection, it is one of the most complete in Italy.The Museum was born from the passion for cycling of Sergio Sanvido (1928-2015), who has dedicated his entire life to the bicycle: he was a repairer, restorer and dealer of bicycles, and for three years, from 1946 to 1949, he also participated in some sports competitions.
In the 1970s, he began to collect bicycles from all over the world with the aim of creating a museum.
Thus, on 29 June 1997, in the Sanvido house, the first version of the Historical Bicycle Museum was born, dedicated to the memory of the Venetian Toni Bevilacqua, world champion in pursuit in 1950 and 1951.
Sanvido wanted to donate his collection to the Municipality of Cesiomaggiore, which in 2007 provided for the new location of this precious collection of bicycles, accessories and memories of national and international cycling. oldest piece: a French celerifer from 1791, then accompanied by subsequent Italian, English, French and American bicycles of the nineteenth century. As evidence of the social importance of the vehicle, there are the bicycles used for work: that of the English fireman, the Swiss postman, the coffee roaster, the traveling photographer. Among the many bicycles that belonged to sporting champions, the legendary ones of Coppi and Bartali, exhibited alongside those of Moser, Saronni and Pantani, should be mentioned.
Attention is also drawn to the very interesting details of some vintage bicycles: lights with candles, ventilated saddles, brushes on the fenders and much more. In the Museum there are not only bicycles, but also numerous memorabilia, accessories, photos, T-shirts, old covers - those designed by Beltrami for the “Domenica del Corriere” - dedicated to cycling.
