Fabulous 360 degree panoramic views from this viewpoint along Rushup Edge. The ridge's highest point is Lord's Seat, at 1,804 feet (550 m), providing views of Mam Tor, down to Edale and Upper Booth and across to Eldon Hill and quarry.

View from Mam Tor

Highlight • Natural Monument

Absolutely the best views from the top of Mam Tor. If you want to enjoy some peace and quiet, go early!! Mam Tor gets very busy and virtually overrun with visitors, car parking becomes a nightmare. Ensure not to park anywhere along the road that isn't a designated parking bay - traffic wardens regularly issue tickets to anyone who is even an inch outside the bay.

Mam Tor

Highlight • Summit

Mam Tor is a breathtaking summit with enchanting views over the Peak District. In clear conditions, the views stretch all the way to Manchester. There are so many options when hiking in this area, too. It can get busy, though, so choose your moment.

Hollins Cross

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Hollins Cross is a col with spectacular panoramic views. There are loads of great trails around here, especially via the Great Ridge to Mam Tor. It can get very busy at popular times/when the weather is great, so choose your moment.

Edale Village

Highlight • Parking

Edale is a beautiful village set at the base of Kinder Scout. It’s a great start point for walks in the local area, including the classic Mam Tor and the Great Ridge. There’s a large pay and display car park, which has toilets and a cafe, a couple of good pubs and a small shop in the village centre.

The Woolpacks rock formations

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Woolpacks area is great to explore, tricky in bad visibility and the peat bogs can be perilous, Excellent!!

September 12, 2024,Half of the Edale Skyline
Doing the Edale skyline in 2 weeks, so I got some training in. Halved it, bobbing through Edale from Mam Tor. Muddy and foggy up on Kinder. No surprise there. Diverted slightly to Edale Cross, a Peaky Wonder. Wasn't as bad as I thought, apart from Grindslow, that's a hard one.
Hard on your feet and cold at the top need a hat 👒...rewarding walk 🚶‍♂️
Would like to point out that this hike includes Grindsbrook Clough, which is a scramble up and also down.
Did not enjoy the 2 mile section where you go off right near the top of Jacobs ladder along a section that eventually takes you to Mam tor. I found it quite a boring section.
October 16, 2021,Mam Tor and Kinder Low
Peak district is full of wonders and places to hike. For this hike we chose some of the more popular destinations. What’s great about this route is that you can get here with public transport. . I try to get out on adventures as much as possible and like to try find hikes that are accessible by public transport so …
