Skipton is known as the Gateway to the Dales and makes for an excellent base for all manner of outdoor adventures. The 1,000-year-old Skipton Castle and its woods are a great place to explore, whilst a vibrant market takes over the town on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There are some lovely rambles onto the surrounding moorland and the Leeds and Liverpool canal makes for a pleasant afternoon stroll.
