The Sulejowski Reservoir, as this reservoir is called, is located in the Łódź province between Sulejów and Smardzewice. It is one of the largest reservoirs in central Poland. It was created in the years 1969-1973 by damming the Pilica River, along its 139 km length, with a dam in Smardzewice. The dam that was created there is about 1200 m long, 16 m high, and its width at the crest is 10 m. The created reservoir has an area of 2700 ha, a length of about 17.1 km, and a varied width, which in some sections is even about 3 km. The maximum depth of the reservoir is 10 m at the dam, while the average depth of the reservoir is 3.3 m.
