Description
If you're looking for a mountain biking route that offers a bit of everything without being overly strenuous, the Lago Nº 4 loop from Playa is definitely worth your time. This moderate 21.6-mile (34.8 km) ride, with 558 feet (170 metres) of elevation gain, can be completed in about 2 hours and 18 minutes, making it a great option for a fun, accessible outing for a range of skill levels.
What to expect on Lago Nº 4 loop from Playa
The route takes you through diverse landscapes, from river valleys and rolling hills to agricultural lands with horse and cattle grazing areas and even a mango plantation. You'll enjoy scenic views of two man-made lakes, Lago Poncea and Lago La Torre, and ride alongside sections of the Río Guayo. While largely flat, the trail keeps things engaging with singletrack sections featuring sharp turns, quick drops, and some short, moderate climbs. Expect some loose and rocky terrain near the Río Guayo, though a paved alternative is available. The zig-zagging ups and downs along Lago La Torre are particularly fun, making this a varied ride suitable for easy to intermediate riders and families.
Planning your visit
The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, offering plenty of shade along its course. Be aware of a road crossing on PR-14 and the potential for encountering horses and cattle on the trail, especially in agricultural areas. Its connections with local access roads provide versatility, allowing for alternate routes if desired. The trail is accessible and family-friendly, making it a good choice for a leisurely ride.
