It's purpose was to secure the area against the hostile Lithuanians. In 16th century it was remodeled in the style of renaissance and got it's current appearence. Now it houses an hotel.

Evangelical Augsburg Church in Giżycko

One of the few protestant churches of former East Prussia that were not expropriated after Second World War and consecrated into a catholic one. There still exists a protestant evangelical congregation.
