Paleisweg along the heath

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

No palace in sight, but that heath is beautiful. The concrete path is good for cycling all year round, but you will have to share it with other cyclists and the occasional walker. Not very suitable for groups on weekends.

Heetweg Through the Veluwe Forests

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Very well paved road that runs through the woods towards Kootwijk. There are also cars on the road so you will have to take that into account. But it is a great way to dive into the Veluwe!

De Hoop Corn Mill Garderen

Highlight • Monument

The mill was restored (restored) in 1934, 1938, 1957, 1970, 1993 and 2006. In 1998 the cross arms in the upper wheel were reinforced with merbau and the long sprout was replaced with bilinga (Nauclea trillesii, a wood species from tropical West Africa). In 1938 the blades are equipped with steel French rods instead of wooden ones and streamlined with a van "Bussel" front hem (Bussel nose). This front hem was later replaced by a regular front hem. In 1969/70 new steel rods from the company Derckx were installed and in April 1996 the fencing of the rods was renewed. In April 2010, the broken neck stone was replaced. On December 20, 2016, a new, welded, divisible outer rail from the construction company H. van Ee from Barneveld was installed and fenced with wood from the Siberian larch. Divisible rods turned out to have a construction defect, as a result of which all divisible rods had to be replaced. The bolts were not resistant to buckling load. On November 15, 2017, the divisible rod was replaced by a rod made entirely of Corten steel, also made by construction company H. van Ee.

The mill is still used to grind grain such as barley, rye, maize and wheat for animal feed.
