Aggertalsperre Reservoir

Highlight • Monument

Located in the Oberbergischer Kreis, near Bergneustadt, the Aggertalsperre invites to numerous hikes and walks with a view of the water. Among other things, here starts the "energy path" of the raids of the mountain hiking country. Furthermore, various water sports invite you to visit the dam.

Bathing places are in the "Strandbad Bruch", as well as "Freizeitcamp Aggertalsperre". There are also rowing and pedal boats for an exciting tour on the water.

Under water, the Aggertalsperre is a great area for amateur and recreational divers. For the use of the dam for diving please contact the "Tauchsport- und Forschungsgemeinschaft Siegerland eV in Siegen".

Underwater sights:
• fully preserved viaduct (interchangeable bridge arch)
• crushing plant
• dam
• stone walls
• cliffs

The Aggerverband also offers for groups a tour of the dam with interesting insights into the technology.
To enjoy the day to the full, camping and barbecue areas offer opportunities for a short and long stay in a cozy atmosphere.

Arrival by public transport:
e.g. From Cologne central station (platform 10) take the regional train RB25 direction Meinerzhagen
Stop: Gummersbach (track 2)
Continue with the bus 318 (minibus) from Gummersbach Bf (bus platform 11) direction Lieberhausen
Stop: Genkeltalsperre, Gummersbach-Bredenbruch

A beautiful circular hiking trail. Unfortunately, the forest has suffered greatly from the drought.

From here you have a fantastic view of the tranquil Agger reservoir, surrounded by dense forests. The region is a popular recreational area. A hike around the reservoir is worthwhile any time of year.

Rengse Dam and Bergische Sun Bench

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Rengse Dam is part of the Aggertal Reservoir. It was built between 1927 and 1929 and continues to fulfill important functions in water management. From the bench, there is a fantastic view across the elongated reservoir with its wooded shoreline.

April 5, 2023,Agger-Talsperre – Blick auf die Aggerstaumauer Runde von Hackenberg
We parked at Hackenberg/Schöne Aussicht. But you could also park directly down by the Agger.
The first piece was of course very tar heavy along the road. This could also have been avoided. It was relatively quiet today. I know it differently there. We actually really liked the tour. When the trees are green again, it would be even more …

This loop had been slumbering on my planned tours for some time. Since the weather was supposed to be fantastic again today (and it was), it was the perfect day for the Aggertalsperre dam circuit, as the circular route offers a mix of shade and sun!
I actually quite liked the tour. Actually, I did, because the last few kilometers, …

⭐ ⭐ of ⭐⭐⭐⭐

About a third of the route runs along busy roads.

The rest of the route is pretty, but unfortunately it doesn't make up for it.

Showing Translation

Unfortunately, the last section beyond the main path is impassable. So, just go to the dam car park and walk back the path from the beginning.

Showing Translation

From the parking lot at the dam to Lantenbach, the trail is paved. The view of the dam is often obscured by dense bushes and trees.

Otherwise, it's a good hike, but there are more tranquil dam trails.

Showing Translation

Too short for cyclists, too long for joggers and not exciting for hikers and with just over 3 km along the main road 🤷

Showing Translation

The route around the Aggertalsperre is highly recommended in and of itself.
It loses points for the high proportion of asphalt. About 5km along the main road is not so great.
Unfortunately there are no shortcuts or alternatives.

Showing Translation

Very nice round, easy to walk on paved paths
