As of January 2025, this second tunnel on the tour is closed. There is no alternative route to Caldeira Verde and Inferno. The tour is very beautiful anyway, but if you set out with the goal in mind, it is of course a bit disappointing if you don't reach it. The closure is also marked on the map at the parking lot, but unfortunately in such a way that it can easily be overlooked.

Caldeirão Verde Levada

Highlight • Trail

Great tour along the Levada, through a rainforest. The paths are easy to walk on. Nevertheless, good shoes, a rain jacket (just in case) and lamps (several small tunnels) are recommended. The paths are secured. At the end of the tour you will be rewarded with the sight of a beautiful waterfall.

Pico Ruivo Summit

Highlight • Summit

Pico Ruivo is the highest point on the island of Madeira from its height of 1,862 meters. This must-see offers an absolutely magical view of the island as well as the jagged cliffs it surrounds.

From this vantage point, you have a direct view of a gnarled, wind-sculpted tree, standing like a natural sculpture in the landscape. A truly mystical atmosphere is created amidst the grass, mist, and mountains – perfect for photos. Ideal for a short break to take a deep breath and soak up the unique ambiance of Madeira Natural Park.

October 12, 2024,Madeira 7: PR9 Levada do Caldeira Verde & PR 1.1 Puico Ruivo ⛰️
My most beautiful hike in Madeira. The most beautiful & impressive Levada with an ascent that reveals a beautiful view.
Be careful however with the descent which is slippery but not horrible

Beautiful view from the top. I recommend good waterproof boots if you choose to take round trip like me.
It is said that the sun always shines somewhere on Madeira. Luckily, the island is small enough to scrap plans you've made and go where there might be good weather. Above the clouds is always a good tip - rainbows included. Started in the clouds, a bit of rain can't hurt either, but hey - the sun meant well and …

Very nice tour, only a small way at the end didn't exist, so you had to experiment off-road, we as beginners found it very exhausting as you can see on the one picture, a friend ended up in the flower bed.

A very varied tour that starts from a well-developed hiking car park. First, the path leads continuously along the levada, you can see trout and moss-covered rock faces, water drips everywhere, the climate is very humid. At one point we are literally showered by a jet of water. After almost 5 kilometers we leave the levada circuit and begin the …
