Everyone can cycle in a relaxed manner on the railway line. Attention, even this wide path is not free of many bumps. So keep your hands on the wheel...

The third stage of the Moselle cycle path presents itself entirely in the spirit of the ancient Romans. The starting point is Trier - a true treasure trove of Roman architecture that still has a decisive influence on the cityscape. The cycle path leads over the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge along the left bank of the Moselle, first to the district of Pfalzel, which was the summer residence of the Roman emperors for a long time, and finally to Schweich with its baroque ferry tower. Here the cycle path changes to the right side of the Moselle and the landscape slowly changes from the open to the narrowing valley. At the stage destination in Mehring, the Villa Rustica - a reconstructed Roman estate - is waiting to tell the story of the luxurious everyday life of the Roman settlers.

Moselle Cycle Path Near Riol

Highlight • Cycleway

The landscape on the cycle path is very varied. Since both sides of the Moselle are easily accessible, you should plan to change sides every now and then.

View of the Moselle Vineyards

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Moselle region may not be the largest, but it is one of the most famous and, above all, the oldest of the 13 wine-growing regions in Germany. It begins at the German-Luxembourg border and ends about 240 kilometers later, just before the mouth of the Moselle in Koblenz.

Moselle Cycle Path near Mehring

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The Moselle Cycle Path begins in Metz, France, and ends in Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate. In between, the cycle path meanders for around 310 kilometers through the foothills of the Eifel and Hunsrück - always along the river that gives it its name. It's definitely going to be international. The Moselle has its source in the French Vosges, touches the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and, after around 550 kilometers, flows into the Rhine at the Deutsches Eck.

A very beautiful section between Dezem and Mehring, which runs directly along the Moselle. This provides direct views of the river and shade.

From Trier over the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge, the tour takes us along the left bank through Pfalzel, Schweich. Here we change the banks of the Moselle. The valley is slowly getting narrower here. The cycle path continues through wide bends in the Moselle and vineyards to Mehring, Detzem, Köwerich and Leiwen, our place to stay today.

Actually another easy tour, if the wind hadn't been blowing from the front all the time 😠 In Trier on the left side of the Moselle, a short distance along the Kyll to Schweich. There again changed sides. Visited the remains of a Roman villa near Mehring. A great bike path to Neumagen-Dhron

Reached – Trier 🏁🚴‍♂️

Three days, three stages, countless impressions – today I reached Trier 🎉. With the best weather ☀️, the city shows off its most beautiful side: lively, historic, inviting 🏛️. Happy people everywhere 😊 in an impressive setting.

With a little delay because wahoo bitched. Yesterday's tour. Again a great panorama and an enormously high density of wine bars. 🍷🍷 We stopped by a friend in Piesport.

In Trier left-hand side downstream to Schweich, then changed to the right-hand side of the river. Attention on the bridge, it is advisable to change directly on the right side of the bridge to the left bank of the Moselle. Then it goes beautifully along the banks of the Moselle to our accommodation in Leiwen. Pension Alexanderhof is highly recommended, …

After we (my wife and I) had reached the west side of the Moselle cycle path after a 2km detour (lots of construction sites), we discovered that the west side was closed. We went back and continued along the east bank.
We then continued to Leiwen in the pouring rain, but it was a lot of fun.

A very nice tour on the Moselle, with the booking with Better by Moseltour.
