Bothin Marsh Preserve

Highlight • Natural

This 106-acre preserve incorporates a 2-acre tidal wetland that’s a small reminder of the vast salt marshes that once surrounded San Francisco Bay. A quiet inlet at the north end of Richardson Bay, surrounded by cordgrass and pickleweed, it’s home to several endangered species and many shorebirds and waterfowl rest and feed here. The Sausalito-Mill Valley bike path, and the branch to Tennessee Valley/Mt Tam, are paved through the marsh.

Fort Baker

Highlight • Historical Site

Fort Baker is a historic army post located in the Marin Headlands. The post, built between 1902 and 1910, is one of the park’s best examples of the army’s “Endicott Period” military construction, named after the late 19th century Secretary of War, William C. Endicott. Mostly transferred to civil purposes since 2000 including hotels, the Children's Discovery Museum, etc., the U.S. Coast Guard Station Golden Gate, located at Horseshoe Cove, is responsible for search and rescue missions, homeland security, maritime law enforcement, maritime environmental protection and boating safety. The Travis Air Force Base continues to operate the Sailing Marina Center at the Presidio Yacht Club. nps.gov/goga/learn/historyculture/fort-baker.htm

Sausalito Houseboats

Highlight • Settlement

The Sausalito houseboat community is full of architectural gems and repurposed old working boats, and each is wonderfully unique. Bikes are not allowed on the dock, so you must park your bike to get a closer look; however, remember to be respectful when visiting, as these are residential homes, and you are close to someone's living space.

Sausalito Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The Sausalito Bike Path runs through Mill Valley. It's a paved route with great views of the wetlands on the old Northwest-Pacific rail line, which operated from 1884 until its closure in 1971. The path ends near Mike’s Bikes in Marin City, where riders can continue along the busy Bridgeway into Sausalito or take quieter marina backroads.

Peaceful northern end of the Baywood Park wetland with a wooden pedestrian/bike bridge.

Camino Alto Road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

As the bike trails dead-end on both sides of the closed Alta tunnel, Camino Alto is a popular, albeit hilly and narrow, road ride alternative to connect Mill Valley and Corte Madera.

Corte Madera Pathway

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This is a great protected bike path that follows the creek.

Corte Madera Creek

Highlight • River

From this point upstream the bed of Corte Madera Creek is canalized in a narrow concrete channel. Downstream it opens into a partially tidal estuary that lost much of its wetlands, but still has a lot of natural features.
