The Herzogstand offers fantastic views of some lakes in the north and the Walchensee and the Alps with all the mountains in the south. Fantastic in winter as in summer.

Super nice view of the lakes and the Alps. Unfortunately very crowded on Sundays and public holidays. Few hikers, many day trippers...

So to avoid overcrowding, a day's holiday outside of the school holidays helps, this round with great views would deserve it, and so would you.🤗

Fascinating, as the lake reflects and seems almost infinite, because the distant shore between the trees is barely visible.

December 29, 2025,❄️ Herzogstand 🏔️ ☀️und Walchensee 🥾👫
Day 1 of our holiday at Lake Walschen led us straight to our first summit. We chose the Herzogstand, and that's exactly what we did. Nearly 1000m of ascent, a sensational panorama, and great company were the ingredients for this truly fantastic hike. 🥾👫💪🏼

"You have to celebrate not only the festivals, but also the days as they come."

This time, completely unusually, I wasn't out and about with my "E"selchen, but like @I.Maria and @Draußen-Franz -🚶‍♂️-🚴‍♂️-🇪🇺 are doing it ALL THE TIME 🤭 >> on foot 🥾🥾.

When I looked at the topo, I had some concerns about the ascent.
However, although it was constantly uphill, this one was extremely easy to walk.
With serpentines always uphill in the forest.

The last few meters to the peaks were just as relaxed and easy to walk as everything else up to that point.
A beautiful view at the …

I had actually planned to walk around the lake ... right in Urfeld but the eastern route was closed.
Then I did this tour on the spur of the moment ... it wasn't quite optimal, but still totally beautiful

The weather was supposed to be more suitable for a T-shirt today, so we headed for the first "real" mountain with a summit cross of this vacation.
The Herzogstand in the Bavarian foothills, at 1,731 meters, was the perfect place. Easily accessible by bus, we headed to Walchensee, and from there, a steep climb to the summit.
Then we leisurely …

A beautiful tour. We climbed the first 5.5 km directly up the south slope. As it had snowed a week ago, the climb was dangerous in places due to the melting snow. The snack in the Königshaus on the Herzogstand was super cozy and delicious. The descent along the forest path was then unspectacular.

Group tour with four participants with 2 overnight stays in the youth hostel at Lake Walchensee.
1st day of touring.
A DJH GROUP membership costs only € 25 per calendar year and is valid until the end of January of the following year.
However, at least FOUR people MUST participate, but there can be more.

Today's itinerary included the Herzogstand, another classic peak in the Bavarian foothills – a true vantage point. Even the journey there took a bit of time, as the bus kept getting stuck in slow-moving traffic.

The climb itself was well-attended from the start, almost overcrowded. This somewhat dampened the fun – perhaps one could have even tongue-in-cheek called the summit …
