Historic Market Square, Rheine

Highlight • Historical Site

With its 73,000 inhabitants, Rheine is the second largest city in the Münsterland. The city is divided into almost two equal parts by the Ems, but the Dortmund-Ems Canal is also not far away. In addition to some very beautiful baroque buildings (such as the mill on the Emswehr), Rheine offers a variety of nature experiences such as the saltworks park in the northwest or the nature zoo.

The inscription refers to the almost total destruction of the city during the Thirty Years' War. The facade is well preserved. The house is located directly on the Marktpkatz and opposite the Dionysiuskirche.

The Nepomuk Bridge belongs to Rheine like the Eiffel Tower to Paris. From there you have a wonderful view towards the Emswehr and Mühlentörchen.

In 1980, a concrete bridge was erected over the Ems instead of an earlier pier bridge. The pedestrian bridge connects the western and eastern parts of the city center. A true-to-original copy of the figure of Saint Nepomuk was placed on the bridge to replace a sculpture that was destroyed in World War II.
