Paderborn Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

The High Cathedral of St. Maria, St. Liborius, St. Kilian is the cathedral church of the Archdiocese of Paderborn and one of the city's landmarks. The cathedral, built in late Romanesque and Gothic style, is located in the heart of the city, surrounded by the numerous Pader springs. The concise west tower of the three-aisled church is particularly striking. The Romanesque tower attracts visitors from afar. If you visit the city of Paderborn, you will inevitably pass the cathedral.

If you want to delve deeper into the Paderborn Cathedral and gain an insight into the religious history and art history of the church and the city, you can consider a cathedral tour. Guided tours can be attended on all seven days of the week (of course, the times around the service on Sundays and public holidays are excluded). There are also special tours, for example for the visually impaired or people with dementia.

Padersee (West side)

Highlight • Lake

The Pardersee is halfway between the city center and Neuhaus Castle and is fed by the Jaguar. The lake was created in the 1970s as a flood retention basin for the protection of the district Neuhaus Castle and also serves as a recreation area. In the area there is an adventure playground, a beer garden and very nice paths.

Today we headed back from Schloss Neuhaus to the source area of the Pader River. The exhibition "Tatort Paderborn: The River I Am in Paderborn" is currently on. We looked at a few works of art. We've seen some on other weekends. The exhibition runs until October 25, 2025. It's worth it.

We did this "hike" three years ago. I have now hiked a German river twice from the source to the mouth and back. I am very proud of myself 😂😂

Today we took the train to Paderborn, where it was Sunday shopping and was pretty full. But on the hike to Neuhaus Castle along the Pader, there wasn't much to see of the hustle and bustle. 🤗 I was also lucky with the weather.⛅️

Today I was in Paderborn again. It went along the Pader to Schloß Neuhaus and back to Paderborn.
The Pader is the shortest river in Germany at four kilometers long. The Pader rises from over 200 springs that merge into several short source rivers to form the Pader. The springs rise in the Pader source area below the cathedral and …

A beautiful walk along the Pader River.
The ascent and descent indicated by Komoot are obviously incorrect! The path is completely flat!

The Pader - Germany's shortest river. After only 4 kilometers it flows into the Lippe at Neuhaus Castle. After the tour of Paderborn, the path always leads along the river through the alluvial forests to Neuhaus Castle. Large parts are closed to protect nature. But every now and then there are beautiful views of the river and the waterfowl.

The Pader hiking trail is unfortunately mostly detoured at the moment, in case someone wants to follow it. 🚧
Otherwise it is a very nice corner, also the Pader See.
