Hoflößnitz Castle and Saxon Wine Museum

Highlight • Castle

The Hoflößnitz building ensemble consists of the Lusthaus and Berghaus, the wine tavern with the wine terrace as well as the press house, the Kavalierhaus and a guest house. The buildings date from different eras, but the basic structure of the complex can be traced back to the 17th century.

A visit to this idyllic complex is very worthwhile, because you can visit exhibitions of the Saxon Wine Museum in the Lust- and Berghaus as well as the Kavalierhaus, find out more about the region in the press house and enjoy the wines and the view in the wine tavern or on the terrace.

Spitzhaus Staircase

Highlight • Structure

For August the Strong, Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann designed an annual stairway, each consisting of seven steps and 52 landings, from the Hoflößnitz to his planned, further pleasure palace on the edge of the Wahnsdorf plateau. It was to be built on the Wolframsdorf vineyard, which came into electoral ownership in 1710. After Pöppelmann's death, between 1747 and 1750, even 390 steps were built, making it the largest baroque staircase in Saxony, which climbs 220 meters straight and 76 meters high. It was restored from 1845 to 1847 by master builder Karl Moritz Haenel and extensively renovated in 1992 using Postaer sandstone and Meißner granite. It was expanded to 397 steps with 57 landings and is now used, for example, for the Radebeul staircase.
The Spitzhaus staircase leads past the striking entrance portal of the Goldener Wagen vineyard to the west, which gives the Radebeuler Goldener Wagen vineyard its name.

When the weather is clear, you can see the Eastern Ore Mountains and Saxon Switzerland from here, but you can also overlook the closer (Radebeul, Cossebaude, Dresden, the Elbe Valley).

November 3, 2022,Bilz-Rundweg durch die Radebeuler Weinberge 🍇
A circular route through the Radebeul vineyards recommended by naturopath and life reformer Friedrich Eduard Bilz. From the Spitzhaus you have a wonderful view of Dresden.

Showing Translation

A wonderful little tour through the Radebeul vineyards to the Spitzhaus. There are open ostrich taverns everywhere - delicious wine and delicious food. The colorful coloring of the vine leaves is also beautiful.

Showing Translation

A very beautiful hike, but strenuous. At the beginning, you climb the Spitzhaus staircase (395 steps), but you're rewarded with a magnificent view. If you haven't had enough after the Spitzhaus staircase, you can also climb the Bismarck Tower.

Showing Translation

If you're ever in Radebeul, you can also take a short tour through the vineyards.
