Bench by the River Stour

Highlight • River

The bench by the Stour really is a nice spot if you need a stop. There's a tarmac path leading to it if you don't fancy off-roading across the grass.

Dedham Road

Highlight • Trail

Dedham Vale is an AONB that covers about 90 sq km crossing the Essex-Suffolk border. The River Stour winds its way through the valley, passing green rolling farmland.

John Constable often featured the valley in his paintings, to the extent that the area is known as Constable Country.

Some of his Dedham Vale paintings are on display at the V&A Museum in London.

Scenic views of the River Brett valley

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Best views are had heading northwards towards Hadleigh, looking out just before the drop down Higham Hill towards the river. Short but steep: check your speed to watch out for piles of loose sand and stones in the road.

Lavenham Medieval Village

Highlight • Settlement

Full of history and character, Lavenham just calls out to be explored. It is a wonderfully well preserved medieval village and in its heyday was once of the 20 most wealthiest in the country. Evidence of this is clear throughout the village. There are lots of places to stop to eat and drink or to stay if you are looking for a few days away in Suffolk.
