For me, this is one of the most beautiful spots on this circular hiking trail. A really good view where you can get an idea of the size of the Wiehl Dam.

This little glimpse of the dam at least gives you an idea: "Ah, there was something with water!" Unfortunately, I only know the summer view; in winter, due to the high proportion of deciduous trees, there could be completely different views.

From the bench you have a beautiful view of the Wiehl Dam.

This blue sign, which marks the outermost protected area of the drinking water reservoir, can be found every few hundred meters. Because of this, it is not officially possible to get closer to the water. Due to this restriction and the few free spaces with a direct view of the water, it is more like a hike through a dense forest.

The Wiehl Dam in the Oberbergischer Kreis is the largest dam in the Agger Association and is used to supply drinking water. The area is characterized by a diverse flora and fauna, and there is a well-developed network of paths provided by the forestry administration, including guided hikes and viewpoints such as the Auchel Fjord and the viewpoint on Krombacher Island.

View of the Wiehl Reservoir

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Wiehl Dam is located near Reichshof in the Oberbergischer Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, and is a drinking water reservoir belonging to the Aggerverband. Together with the Genkel Dam, it provides around 25 million m³ of raw water for approximately 500,000 people year in, year out. It also serves as flood protection and generates electricity thanks to the difference in height between the dam and the forebay reservoir. Construction began in 1967; the reservoir was put into operation in 1973. It has a catchment area of approximately 46.6 km², a water surface area of approximately 2.2 km², and a capacity of approximately 31.5 to 32.7 million m³ of water. In the 1960s and 1970s, around eleven small villages with around 450 inhabitants had to be relocated for construction. A railway line and roads were also relocated. The Auchel Waterworks was commissioned in the early 1970s.

Beautiful tour with a pleasant, well-signposted route.
Too bad the patches of Indian balsam growth...
It offers itself as a supplement to the "detour" A3 to the viewpoint/tower

Today just a short walk around the Wiehl Dam.
The path leads along easy-to-walk forest paths. Now and then you could even catch a glimpse of the dam.
It was nice to walk a path without a lot of elevation for a change, otherwise I was rarely impressed!
