Engels Ruh Rest Area

Highlight • Rest Area

Very nice and idyllic resting place between the Emser Berg and the Altenburg. Many hiking trails meet here and the touching story of Mrs. Engel is told, who regularly stopped here on the way to the market.

April 14, 2022,Habichtswaldsteig: Firnsbachtal - Sand
On our second day, after a great breakfast in the Pension Firnsbachtal, we started in the rain, but it eased off when we arrived at the Schauenburg. The weather then got better and better.

We continued along a narrow path and through the village of Hoof. Burgberg was the first hill, and there were slippery steps up and down. We went through beech forests and narrow paths and across meadow paths. There was also a paved path in between. A narrow path …

After I (Steffi) set up my tent ⛺ on the trekking site in Firnsbachtal yesterday evening, I retired to the nearby inn for dinner. The restaurant "Im Firnsbachtal" is just under 400 meters from the campsite, and if you don't like to cook yourself, you're in good hands here 🍽️

After a very good breakfast at the excellent Firnsbachtal guesthouse, I took a leisurely walk through the forest toward Schauenburg-Hoof to visit the Schauenburg Castle ruins. A lively up and down, the climbs and descents kept my hiking muscles fit...
Finally, the Falkenstein Castle ruins and the Altenburg ramparts were on my to-do list.
