Polenztal Valley

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

An eye opener along the poles, we were here in summer and enjoyed the coolness of the river.
The gorge is mostly in the shade.

Polenztal Valley

Highlight • Gorge

Especially worth seeing in March, when the spring cups are in bloom and the whole meadow is immersed in a white sea. ;-)

Polenztal Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The route follows the course of the Polenz river and repeatedly offers beautiful views of the water, small bank areas, and the region's characteristic rocky landscape. Due to its sheltered location in the valley, there is often a calm and relaxed atmosphere here – a clear contrast to the more frequented high trails around Bastei.

Polenz Valley

Highlight • River

The Polenz rises on the German-Czech border between the villages of Langburkersdorf, Rugiswalde and Nová Víska (Neudörfel near Nieder Einsiedel). The upper reaches of the Polenz are known as the Langburkersdorfer Bach and form the natural border between the Hohwald and Saxon Switzerland. Near the town of Hohnstein, below the Hockstein, the Polenz crosses the so-called Lusatian overthrust, where the Lusatian granite has pushed itself as a tectonic plate over the sandstone layers of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, sediments of a former coastal seabed. At this point, the shape of the valley changes suddenly from the V-shape typical of granite to a canyon-like shape with high, vertical sandstone walls.

This was Fee's best trip so far. Jumping into the stream and romping around. She was like a little puppy 🥰

A nice walk along the Polenz. Past an old, abandoned mill ruin, past the meadows of the Märzenbecher, to the Waltersdorfer Mühle and back to the Russigmühle, where we stopped. Good home cooking and nice service. Unfortunately, the navigation didn't quite work, unfortunately it was broken off, it was nine kilometers

Another tour was in Polenztal.

This starts at the front parking lot (road to Hohnstein) and goes up to the climb to Füllhölzelweg. Then it went back again.

First of all: Komoot let me down again today. After half of the distance, no further recording was made. Had to restart Komoot. That's why
Part 1 & Part 2.
Total: 13 km 380 m ascent.
Now for the actual hike.
We parked at the free (oh wonder)
Filler car park, between Waltersdorf and Hohnstein.
It was an absolute dream …
