Aber Castle Mound

Highlight • Castle

The village of Abergwyngregyn (often shortened to Aber) is on the north coast of Wales, a few miles east of Bangor.
The Mound: Pen-y-Mwd is a substantial, steep-sided, sub-circular earthwork. It is a classic Motte, which is the high mound of a motte-and-bailey castle. It measures roughly 22 feet (6.7 meters) high.
Motte and Bailey: Traces of a surrounding ditch and a potential Bailey (the outer defensive enclosure) to the south-east have been identified. The motte itself has never been excavated.

Aber Falls Pathway

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A wide well constructed path that takes you from the old stone bridge all the way up to Aber Falls and further around the valley if you wish on some stout wooden bridges. It is a beautiful valley with the waterfalls being a popular attraction and very busy in summer.
The car park by the bridge is free but the car park further up (with toilets) requires payment. The access road leading to it is not suitable for motorhomes and neither is the parking/bridge.

Aber Falls

Highlight • Waterfall

At 120 feet (37 metres) high, Aber Falls is a spectacular sight indeed. Best seen on a rainy day, the water thunders over the cliff like a curtain of water; crashing to earth with an almighty spray. A great attraction for all ages and abilities. The rocks below can get a little slippery, though, so take care.

An other angle to observe the Aber falls. Worth the additional steps. And if you continue further, you will find an other nice fall.

The North Wales Path is a super good long-distance trail 60 miles (97 km) long running from Prestatyn to Bangor in North Wales. It has a coastal and hilly hinterland mix of terrain, and here on the lower flanks of Ffridd Ddu, you have gorgeous views out over the northern entrance of the Menai Straits, Anglesey, Puffin Island, and the North Wales coastline.
