Kösseine Cross in the Fichtel Mountains

Highlight • Monument

In 2015 the new cross was erected on the Kösseine. The Fichtelberg forestry company had donated it to mark its tenth anniversary. The cross was designed by the church artist Erwin Otte from Reuth near Erbendorf.

Kösseinehaus

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Kösseinehaus is definitely worth the drive. Not only the Rundrumaussicht, but also the beautifully landscaped guest area are recommended. Indoor and outdoor seating, therefore, even in slightly worse weather suitable as a destination. On weekends in good weather you should be prepared for that every seat is occupied and the food is already very long in coming. But the beverage selection can be a comforting and cake is also fast.

Marienquelle

Highlight • Natural Monument

For decades, the Marienquelle and the associated fountain stone lay at 865 meters away from the marked hiking trails. Hikers who started the final sprint on the high trail from Hohenbrand to reach the summit of the Kösseine did not notice the historically significant place they were marching past.
In recent years, the Nagel local group of the Fichtelgebirgsverein has taken on the task of restoring the important fountain system. A new water pipe was laid from the fountain room to the mountain path. The original fountain stone with the year 1852 carved on the back was then attached to a base plate. FGV member Hans Hütter donated the fountain trough.

Great hiking trail, partly like in a fairytale

If you drive down from Kösseinehaus is the entrance to the trail at the mountain rescue hut (where the big cross is) the trail is strongly blocked and I would rather put an S2 category instead of S1. You can then drive down the main road either direction Luisenburg or direction Püttnerfelsen

Little Haberstein

Highlight • Natural Monument

Both the small and the large Haberstein lie in the massif of the Kössine. The Big Haberstein is about 200 meters away from the little one, if you want to get a little more air.

August 3, 2021,Kösseine, nur der Berg 🏔?
⛰ Anyone who hears the name "Köseine" immediately thinks of the well-known panoramic mountain southwest of Wunsiedel.

But that's also the name of a longer stream that rises on the southeast slope of the Kössein massif and flows in an east-northeast direction past Waldershof and through the urban area of Marktredwitz and flows south of Seußen on the right into …

Today we follow the high trail (white H on a red background),
wonderfully rooty and rocky 👍
The climb up to the large Haberstein is quite interesting and a bit adventurous.

🐐The word Haberstein contains the first part Haber-, an old German word for billy goat. So the literal meaning is goat-billed stone😁

The sky is grey, the drizzle accompanies us all the way 🌧
And yet the forest radiates so much light.
The moss has recovered after the dry summer and is brighter than ever.
The small beeches look like burning torches.
And larches provide color in the dizzy heights.
🍁🌲🍂🙂
And Alexander seems to enjoy shoveling snow on the Kösseine 🤣

Gray in gray yesterday ☁️
It snowed a lot this morning 🌨🌨🌨
And then the sun came out 🌞🌝☀️
And the way to the Kösseine becomes a pleasure: fresh snow, blue sky and the sun is smiling 👍

Finally at the top! We made it – and the feeling of being on the summit again is simply indescribable.
We've been here so many times before, so many memories are attached to this mountain.
But this time the path was more arduous. Our legs were heavier, our breath shorter – there's no denying age 😉 But every effort was …
