Kammerzell House

Highlight • Restaurant

The Kammerzell House (also Kammerzellhaus, French: Maison Kammerzell, Alsatian: Kammerzellhüs) is the most famous secular building in Strasbourg. It is a bourgeois half-timbered house built in 1427 and rebuilt in 1467, which received a rich carved façade in 1589.

It is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses of late German Gothic, comparable to the (1944 burned) salt house in Frankfurt am Main or the (rebuilt) Knochenhaueramtshaus in Hildesheim, but is in contrast to these preserved in the original substance.

The house stands on the north side of the Cathedral Square (Place de la Cathédrale), to the side of Strasbourg Cathedral, and houses a restaurant ("Maison Kammerzell") and a small hotel (9 rooms).

Haus Kammerzell is the birthplace of the fictive detective character Honoré Langustier

Strasbourg Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

Built between 1176 and 1439, this Gothic-style cathedral stands out with its unique spire. This is what made it the tallest monument in the Christian world in the 15th century. Embedded in the middle of the surrounding buildings, its view overwhelms when seen at the bend of a street.

Saint Paul's Church

Highlight • Historical Site

Church worth seeing. Both Catholics and Protestants can celebrate their faith there. Fantastic from the outside and the inside of the Paulskirche is unparalleled. The acoustics of the organ are an experience there thanks to the special layout. You can cool off there very well on hot summer days.

Built entirely of wood in the 14th century, today it is a movable steel and wood bridge that lets boats sailing on the Ill pass. It offers a superb view of the Strasbourg river and the magnificent half-timbered houses of the Petite France district.

Kléber Square

Highlight • Rest Area

Central square of Strasbourg, it has been restructured many times. It is now entirely pedestrian, which makes it a very pleasant place to stroll and stroll. Its name comes from the Strasbourg general Jean-Baptiste Kléber, who particularly distinguished himself during the French Revolution. A statue of him stands in the center of the square. It contains a vault containing the ashes of this outstanding figure of Alsace.

April 25, 2025,Mädelsabend in Straßburg
Girls' night in Strasbourg - only a driver is needed. So I "loaded up my car, full of young girls!" I picked up the first one in Oberursel. The ladies wanted to be in the center of Strasbourg at 9:30 p.m. They guided me precisely to the free parking lot at the "Galia."

We spent a lovely day in Strasbourg today. We complemented our walk with a boat tour through the old town of Strasbourg.
We would have liked to have stayed longer in the Orangery Park, but by then it was getting dark; a pity.
The tour shows just a few of the many sights that could still be visited.

A city tour in between. By car from Colmar to Strasbourg. Parked at a P&R, the ticket was also the ticket for the tram. We arrived in the old town very relaxed.
A boat tour around the Grande-Île gave us an initial overview. Afterwards we strolled between the Strasbourg Cathedral and the La Petite France district.

Yesterday without Bobby we made a round of Strasbourg.
In some streets it was partly deserted, in Petit France and at the great cathedral there were of course a bit more people again.
We were lucky again with the weather and the sun showed up again.
It's just a nice, nice town with a special flair.
