The Jerusalem Chapel is the private chapel of the merchant family Adornes, originating from Genoa in Italy.
The chapel was consecrated in 1429 and is inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.
The architecture, furnishings and special relics are an extraordinary illustration of the Adornes family's great veneration for Jerusalem.

After almost 600 years, the mausoleum of Anselm Adornes and Margaretha van der Banck is removed from the Jerusalem chapel for the first time ever.
The impressive tomb is in poor condition and in urgent need of restoration.
The dismantling of the monument will start in March 2021. In April, the tomb will be moved to a climate chamber in Antwerp where, in a first phase, remains of previous restorations will be removed. In a next phase, new techniques will be used to restore the whole.
In September 2022 (subject to change) the tomb will be back in place and can be admired in the Jerusalem Chapel.
