South Summit of Monte Piglione

Highlight • Summit

Mount Piglione, in the municipality of Pescaglia, is the last peak of the southern Apuan Alps and is the easternmost. It is located on a ridge that branches off to the east from the mouth of the Crocione and divides the valley of the Tùrrite Cava in Garfagnana from that of the Rio Pedogna in the municipality of Pescaglia.
The mountain consists of a mostly grassy ridge with rocks outcropping towards the west, it is oriented from north-west to south-east and culminates with three altitudes: to the north the main peak of 1233 metres, to the south the peak 1188 meters and in the center the summit 1190 meters.
On the minor peak (south) there is a white cross erected on 13 August 1990 by three friends (Giuseppe, Silvio and Valerio) with the indication “M. Piglione here antesummit southeast m. 1188 Top 1233m”. It overlooks the plains of Lucca and Pisa.
