An area of outstanding beauty. Well worth the climb up the sandy paths

View of Albury from The Roughs

Highlight • Natural

From this viewpoint in The Roughs, you can enjoy some glorious views toward Albury and the surrounding countryside of the Surrey Hills AONB.

The area is a popular spot for picnickers, and features a number of benches where you can sit and take in the wonderful scenery.

View from Newlands Corner

Highlight • Rest Area

I would certainly not recommend riding any of the roads up to Newlands Corner (especially the A25 from Dorking / Shere) during the evening rush hour. It is a very busy road and cars/vans here have very, very little patience and consideration for cyclists slogging up the hill and overtake often with inches to spare in their rush to get home. Not a problem going downhill because of the difference in speed. Worst place I've found around Guildford for evening rush hour drivers. Even the A3 is better (because it is usually very slow by then).

View Over Albury and Silent Pool

Highlight • Natural Monument

Stroll through the magical woods of West Hanger in Shere Woodlands, Surrey.

You'll be navigating your way through twisted paths amongst ancient woodlands made up of gnarled trees and secret hideouts. There are some openings in the forest where you'll be afforded some delightful views of the surrounding countryside, and keep your eyes peeled for a variety of wildlife including deer, foxes, and badgers.

Highlight • Natural Monument

A beautiful large pool, with an excellent Indian restaurant and cookery school alongside. They do snack takeaways which is perfect for taking on a walk.

St Martha's Church

Highlight • Historical Site

St Martha’s Church is a beautiful church perched on the top of a hill. Only accessible by foot, the Grade II-listed church affords breathtaking views and a real sense of tranquility. A 12th-century church existed at this location before falling into ruin by the 18th century. The church was rebuilt in 1848 and many of the original 12th-century architectural features were retained.

Chantry Wood

Highlight • Viewpoint

This 200-acre (81 ha) area of woodland and meadows rises above Guildford and makes for a great walk from the town centre. There are some magnificent views, particularly across Chilworth on the south side of the woodland. It's easy to link Chantry Wood to St Martha's Hill to the east, which is adorned by a pretty church and also boasts excellent vistas of the surrounding countryside.
