Millstones, troughs, drinking troughs and many sculptures were also made from it. Many of the quarries have ceased operations in recent decades. The abandoned quarries with their large quarry walls have now become important biotopes and offer breeding grounds for eagle owls and peregrine falcons, for example. Accordingly, some of the quarries have been placed under protection, including this one.
