St. Elizabeth’s Church

The Church of St. Elizabeth in Powsin is a parish church and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Longing. Its origins date back to the 14th century, when in 1398 Elżbieta Ciołkowa founded a wooden church. The current brick building was built in 1725 according to the design of Józef Fontana. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the church was expanded, adding side naves, a bell tower and extending the main nave. For over 300 years, the main altar has housed a miraculous painting of Our Lady of Longing, considered an object of special worship. This image was crowned by Cardinal Józef Glemp in 1998.
