The Fort at Uithoorn is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. It is occasionally spoken about Fort Amstelhoek in popular speech.

From 1880 onwards 45 forts were built around Amsterdam. Fort Amstelhoek first consisted of earthen walls, and in 1887 it was approved by Royal Decree to build a fortification.
Immediately next to and to the west of the fort there was an inlet for the inundation of the present site. To the east of the Ringdijk Tweede Bedijking there is still a small lake and a fan-shaped pattern is still visible in the vegetation where the inlet and the stone dump bed was situated.

During the German occupation in World War II, the Fort was requisitioned by the Germans, who wanted a line of defense in case the Allies broke through the Atlantic Wall. This Vordere Wasserstellung ran from Edam via Krommenie to Haarlem, and Amstelhoek was one of the forts of the Defense Line of Amsterdam, which was requisitioned for this purpose. Men were stationed and ammunition was stored there. In April 1944 large tracts of land were inundated by the occupying forces.

In the seventies and eighties of the 20th century, the fort was used by the secret organization B. Its purpose was to provide strategic information to the Dutch government in exile in the event of a Soviet invasion.

The site is closed with gates, but in September the fort can be visited for three weekends.

This fortification is included on the World Heritage List as part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam.
