The cycle path along the upper Isar from Scharnitz to the source of the Isar is easy to ride on and leads through an extremely attractive landscape through which the turquoise and sometimes wild Isar flows.

Source of the Isar

Highlight • River

The Isar does not have one source, like most rivers, but several sources converge. That is why the place is not called the Isar source, but the Isar origin.

September 13, 2022,🇦🇹 Scharnitz zum Isarursprung und Kastenalm
To our e-bike premiere from Scharnitz via the source of the Isar to the idyllic Kastenalm and back. Then in Scharnitz to Porta Claudia, a fortress from the Thirty Years' War, of which not much can be seen anymore.

At the beginning a sufficiently long tour for our butts and bones 😅.

The trip to the source of the Isar

- Easy to drive on forest roads
- the landscape is simply indescribably beautiful
- For a long time the path runs alongside the Isar
- Many places with great views invite you to linger. This explains the fabulous 😀 average speed
- amazing how quickly a small brook can turn into …

Good weather at last!
Scharnitz markets itself as the gateway to the Karwendel and as a former town for raftsmen on the Isar. The wood from the Scharntizer forest was transported to Munich in the 19th century.

So we cycled up the Isar early in the morning and into the mountains.
Not unexpectedly we found a well-marketed event »Isar Ursprung«.

A short tour to the springs and back to Scharnitz. The weather was good, the paths were fine. The scenery was very beautiful and the Isar was in its original course and condition.

From Scharnitz to the sources of the Isar and on to the Kastenalm - a fantastic path along the Isar.

The sound of the wildly flowing Isar accompanies you on the forest path that always leads uphill.

The bike rolls back to the starting point with almost no pedal activity.

A beautiful tour to the source of the Isar River. I recommend continuing the tour to the Kastenalm. A stunningly beautiful place. 😀🏔️

Very relaxed along the Isar to the reopened Kastenalm. Pure pleasure cycling in every respect!

Great, lily of the valley in June😀
