Wallersee cycle path

Highlight • Trail

Very narrow section of the path. Slowing down and showing mutual consideration is mandatory here and should be a matter of course.

Salzburg Central Station

History & Future of Salzburg Central Station
The main station was opened in 1860, which is actually quite late considering the size of Salzburg. However, in the first half of the 19th century, the city went through very difficult economic times and the expansion of the railway network progressed slowly throughout the entire Habsburg Empire. After 1860, however, the station steadily gained importance.
In World War II, the station, as well as the entire surrounding area, was badly bombed and heavily damaged. A provisional reconstruction followed. This makeshift solution was maintained for decades: corrugated iron roofs, a patchwork of asphalt and rusting steel girders. The reason for this was that no agreement could be reached on a new building. ÖBB, Salzburg politicians and citizens' groups argued about which parts of the station were worth preserving and which should be completely rebuilt.
Meanwhile, the Südtirolerplatz in front of the station was renovated, and an underground regional station was completed in 1996. The reconstruction of the station only began in 2009, and the renovation, with a de facto new building within the historic facade, was completed in 2010. In the preceding years, new office buildings and a shopping center were built near the station.
Compared to the state of the 1990s (not to mention the time before), the station area has improved drastically. However, you will still find plenty of vagrants (bums) and pickpockets are also active here during the main season. Nevertheless, the station is becoming less and less unattractive.

Wenger Moor Viewing Platform

Highlight • Viewpoint

From here you can go to the viewing platform. It's best to leave your bike standing. In the raised moor you will find many unusual plants that only grow in very humid areas, such as cotton grass and the “carnivorous” sundew. But please stay on the paths because the moor is very fragile and there are only a few of them left.
