Font del Ferro

Highlight • Natural Monument

The area of the Fuente del Hierro is located in a hollow under San Pedro de Río, within the domains of the old farmhouse of Can Marqués (Tordera)

For him runs a torrent that empties into the Pineda stream. The hollow was partially disfigured with the construction of the C-32 motorway in 1994. The degraded environment led to the disappearance of a popular force ferruginous water mine (hence its name, Fuente el Hierro). Starting in 2007, several citizen interventions were carried out and the fountain and its surroundings were recovered, although with a different stream of water from the old one.

A few meters away, overcoming the ravine, an arcade was built in Roman times that is included in the same water pipe as the section of the Can Cola aqueduct (Pineda de Mar). The arcade has been consolidated in two complementary archaeological interventions throughout 2012.

Old Mill of Can Marqués

Highlight • Historical Site

Flour mill, possibly from the 11th century, which took advantage of the force of the water from the stream to grind the wheat. Up to 11 mills had been documented in the stream. It is probable that part of the channeling of the Roman aqueduct was used to carry water to the mill.

Calella Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

The Calella Lighthouse is located at the top of a promontory about 50 meters high. In the place where the lighthouse is now, there was an old surveillance and defense tower, which watched over and protected the coasts from the danger of attacks by Algerian pirates.
It was inaugurated on December 15, 1859.
