With this outlet structure and the bridge there, the circuit around the Bärwalder Lake has been shortened somewhat. Previously, this stream could only be crossed further north-west. A few meters behind the structure there is a nice rest area.

July 30, 2024,Iron Lake Challenge 3/10 Bärwalder See
You walk around Lake Bärwalder mostly on asphalt paths, shade is veeeery rare. It's quite a challenge at 30 degrees 😉. But when we reached our destination we enjoyed a well-deserved swim.

Today we started our 5th tour of the Iron Challenge Saxony. This time we circled around Lake Bärwalder and started in the afternoon so that we could get back to the starting point at sunset. Time management was perfect. The weather was fantastic, almost too warm. 24 degrees at the beginning of April. Crazy. But not good for the blooming …

We set off around 10am in the best summer weather to walk around Lake Bärwalder. Here again, almost all of it was asphalt. After midday, it got increasingly hotter and shade was rare. But cooling off was already waiting in the form of a jump into the lake.

Lake Bärwalder is also a relic of open-cast brown coal mining. The black gold was mined from 1976 to 1992, which forced the residents of three towns to leave their homes. After the mining renovation and subsequent flooding, a beautiful local recreation area was created, although the construction work on land has not yet been completed. The pure circumnavigation of …

February 24, 2025,Bärwalder See
Spring-like temperatures and the promise of sunshine all day long lured us to Lake Bärwalder today and we were not disappointed. We experienced fantastic weather and a very quiet circular walk. Only in the Boxberg area were there a few more people. Of course, there are almost no restaurants by the lake on a Monday in February, but we were …

After yesterday's cold, rainy day, bright sunshine greets us today. Gerd is going for a bike ride, and I'm setting off to cycle around Saxony's largest lake, Lake Bärwalder. It was created from a former open-cast mine between 1997 and 2007, like many lakes here in the Lusatian Lake District. And all around it stretches a perfect cycle path. Good …

with a view of the lake....snack bars were also plentiful.

This is another one from the "Iron Lake Challenge Saxony" collection (komoot.com/de-de/collection/2999080/-iron-lake-challenge-sachsen), and I chose Lake Bärwalder. The starting point is the large parking lot at Klitten harbor. From here, the paved path circles the lake without any inherent difficulties. There are plenty of seating areas that invite you to rest your backpack, and there are also a few opportunities …
