Highlight • Climb

A mere blip, but will probably get you out of your saddle.

7.34 km

A lovely spot to stop for a break or even a picnic on the lane between Frocester and Coaley. Views across the Severn Vale from one end of the churchyard and the Cotswold Hills at the other.

Frampton Canal Bridge

Nice place for a breather!

Frampton-on-Severn Village Green

Highlight • Viewpoint

Apparently, this is the largest village green in the UK... with perhaps the smallest the smallest cricket pitch! There's lots to explore in Frampton, the gravel pit lakes, the canal, Saul Junction Marina and the Stroud Canal or just drop into the Bell Inn, which is a real good country pub that also offers very affordable accommodation.

St. Mary's Church, Frampton on Severn

Highlight • Historical Site

The church was consecrated in 1315 and is till in use today. There were probably earlier churches on the site, the first record of clergy in Frampton date from 1228. It is believed the main door dates from 1315 period. It is oak with the imprint of the skins that originally covered it. The antique local and enormous key are still in daily use.

The bridge over the Sharpness to Gloucester canal at Church End that leads to or from a good section of the canal towpath.

18.4 km

Gloucester and Sharpness Canal Towpath

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This section of the towpath is in good condition compared to many other parts. It is compacted gravel that can't be any worse than the Colle della Finestre... and a damn sight flatter! This is the only section of the Severn Vale east of the A38 that is not navigable by road without using the busy A38 itself. It can be accessed via Ryalls Lane from Cambridge or Longaston Lane from Slimbridge or Church End/The Street from Frampton-on-Severn.

Tip by

8

20.3 km

Either cross the bridge and head up Ryall's Lane to Cambridge or Longaston Lane to Slimbridge if turning off the canal towpath. If you're heading down the towpath be aware that it can get a little muddy in winter so it might be best avoided on narrow tyres.
