Coombs Road Trail

Highlight • Climb

This gravelly and rocky climb leads on from Coombs Road. Technical at times but never overly so, it is a fine section of trail through very pleasant countryside. It is a great way of linking the Monsal Trail with Chatsworth and also Rowsley, where you can join the White Peak Loop cycle trail.

Bakewell

Highlight • River

Bakewell is a pretty market town in the heart of the Peak District. While the town is perhaps most famous for its unique pudding, Bakewell has plenty to offer; traditional tea rooms, quirky eateries, fine restaurants, historic buildings, a weekly market, the charming River Wye and plenty of spellbinding countryside to explore.

They’ve done a really good job of routing the trail through this section.

Whitworth Park Pond

Highlight • Lake

White Peak Loop trail goes through the park behind The Whitworth. It's scenic but a bit stop-start when avoiding pedestrians and following the gates and signs. If I'm on my road bike, I just tend to use the quiet lane near the railway crossing and rejoin trail further up towards Rowsley.

Peak Rail Cycle Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Traffic free and flat route from Matlock to Rowsley following the route of the River Derwent and the Peak Railway (steam trains on occasion).
Well surfaced although can be a little muddy in wet weather. One portion of the route near Whitworth Park follows the road (maybe quarter of a mile) but there is a pavement that can be used if no pedestrians.
Two or three roads to cross so watch out for any youngsters riding with you.
Rowsley has a car park (free). There is also a vegetarian cafe at Caudwell Mill at Rowsley but this will mean a short extra ride on the A6 or on the pavement (quarter of a mile?)
Recommended as a ride for families or for those not confident about riding on the road.
