Henne Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Henne Church is the oldest church in the area.
The oldest parts date from the second half of the 12th century and were probably built under Elias, Bishop of Ribe, who is mentioned in 1145 as the owner of nearby Hennegård.
Already around 1300 the choir and the nave were extended. The vestibule of the church and the tower were added in the 15th century. A valuable early Gothic Crucifixion group from around 1250 hangs on the north wall of the chancel.
The altar consists of a late Gothic three-winged carved shrine and dates from around 1500. It was modernized between 1600 and 1620 and placed in a Renaissance structure with four columns and a top. There were also two side altars for Mary with the child and for St. Nicholas, the patron saint of the church, whose sculptures can still be seen today.
The early Renaissance pulpit was donated in 1573 by Hartvig Staverskov, Hennegård. The state gallery with bay window from 1776 is decorated with pictures of the apostles.
