From this location at Besseggen, you have a stunning view on the two lakes Gjende and Bessvatnet. Gjende is a glacial lake and has the characteristic light-green color from the large quantity of rock flour which is discharged into the Gjende by the Muru river. 400 meters above it lies the almost black lake Bessvatnet. Both are only separated by a 50 meter wide land formation called "Bandet".

Besseggen Ridge

Highlight • Summit

The view of the lakes, from the ridge, is incredible so be sure to allow plenty of time for breaks. It's a demanding hike so you definitely need to be sure-footed.
If you hike the entire ridge, hopefully you'll find a place to stay overnight in Mermurubu.

Bessvatnet

Highlight • Lake

The Bessvatnet is one of the many lakes that make up Jotunheimen National Park.

It is separated from its big brother, Lake Gjende, by a small rocky ledge, part of Besseggen.

This lake, much less frequented than the others, is nevertheless no less pleasant. A nice break on his strikes is always welcome!
