Abandoned Building Ruins in the Forest of Rügen

Highlight • Structure

The decay and sheer size of the project can only be guessed at behind the fences and overgrown vegetation. The path leads past the ruins for about 2 km. Beyond them, a beautiful sandy beach.

Ruins of the Prora KdF complex

Highlight • Historical Site

The size of this former holiday property alone is impressive enough. After its (re-)use by the GDR holiday authorities, it has finally found another useful use. A suitable clientele has now been attracted, which is probably also in the interests of the town of Binz. I hope that the last buildings will also find a use.

Binz–Prora Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

There are very good cycle paths on the island of Rügen and some should be ridden with caution.

Prora Architectural Complex

Highlight • Monument

Meanwhile, the "Prora Documentation Center" of the New Culture Foundation provides political background information and shows the use of Prora from 1936 to the present day.
In 2008, the opening of a high ropes course was celebrated on the coastal forest area of the complex. In 2011, a long-planned youth hostel was completed in the northern part of the complex. With one exception, the Federal Agency for Real Estate has now sold all of the building blocks to private investors. Luxury apartments and a hotel are to be built here.

Prora Complex

Highlight • Historical Site

Prora is a bit confusing for the first-time visitor. Here is a little orientation: The youth hostel is the northern start of the building. Shortly behind is the Prora Center Museum:
prora-zentrum.de
In the museum there is information about the history and also guided tours. This is followed by a section with unused parts of the building and partially used areas. A first block follows, which will be transformed into apartments. This ends the first building complex.
You are now in the middle, clearly recognizable by the one realized central wing with the blue, semi-circular building. Here is the documentation center Prora: proradok.de
There are also exhibitions and guided tours here. I personally found it very worth seeing (6 € entry).
From here it gets bizarre, now you come to the "New Prora" dust gives way to asphalt, wheels give way to Porsche Cayennes and BMW X5. This is crowned by the luxury hotel in the middle of the building.
Sound critical? Yes, but nevertheless it is precisely because of these contrasts that I can recommend a visit. With this orientation you can choose what you want to watch.

Prora Seaside Resort Complex

Highlight • Historical Site

A barracks-like colossus stretches for four kilometers along the bay of Prora. At Adolf Hitler's request, a huge seaside resort was to be built here, in the east of the island of Rügen.
