On the summit of the 825 m high small Feldberg, which belongs to the municipality of Glashütten, there are several physical, meteorological and geophysical measuring stations in a fenced area.

In the “Hans Ludwig Neumann Observatory” of the Physical Association of Frankfurt, the solar system is searched for small planets. From 2006 to 2011, 119 minor planets were discovered there.

With modern seismological measuring instruments in a bunker 5 m below the earth's surface, the measurements taken there are used, among other things, to explore the structure of the earth's interior. In the INUIT research group at the Institute for Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Frankfurt, aerosols suspended in the air are being investigated with regard to their importance as condensation nuclei for cloud formation.

The building has been a listed building since 1987.
