The artist Franz Gyolcs created an impressive, yet reduced sandstone monument, which is surrounded by four benches (also made of sandstone). As a cross-border sign, the explanation "FLUCHT & HELP 1989" can be read in German as well as in English, Hungarian, Slovakian and French. In glorious weather, with sunshine and hardly any wind, we cycled mostly along the border. The small border crossings were, of course, closed and controlled by the Austrian Armed Forces. The maypole in Halbturn was a bit crooked.
