Vesuvio Entrance Kiosk and Shuttle Bus Area

Highlight • Rest Area

Waiting area in front of the entrance to Vesuvius. Many running engines from the shuttle buses do not necessarily make the stay an experience.

This is the highest paved point to the Vesuvio vulcano summit. At the parking trailhead are restrooms and places to lock bikes. Out of season and if there are no tourists it might be feasible to bike the gravel trail unnoticed.

Great view over Pompei. Impressive in the knowledge that the fate of the city is very closely linked to that of Vesuvius.

The Valle dell'Inferno is one of the most beautiful paths in the Vesuvius National Park. It is the route that winds between Mount Somma, an ancient volcano, and Vesuvius, at around 1000 m altitude

October 4, 2024,Day 3- Vesuvius
It was very cloudy to start rain too, but soon cleared to reveal a totally stunning landscape and views.
Easy, but sturdy shoes are recommended, the volcanic gravel is sharp. Don't forget sun protection.
The entrance fee is currently €12.

By bus up to 1000m. From the parking lot there is a comfortable path to the crater (20 minutes' walk), where you can walk along for a bit. Wonderful views of Naples, worries and Capri.
You can only hike around the entire crater with a mountain guide.

Unfortunately, we couldn't see into the crater at all because a thick cloud had settled around it. Still, it's still worth a visit. The weather was perfect again in the valley, and you could clearly see Capri off the coast.
