I like climbing the Donon from the north side much better than the main path from the south side. Firstly, it is (naturally) much shady here and therefore much more pleasant in summer. Secondly, there are far fewer hikers here than on the main path and thirdly, the "alpine hiking trail" is much more beautiful and interesting in the last part of the climb, even if it is very narrow and a little more strenuous and difficult.
