Pineto Regional Urban Park

Highlight • Forest

The Pineto Urban Regional Park is a protected natural area of 240 hectares located in the north-west quadrant of Rome. It is the second largest park in the capital after the Appia Antica Regional Park. The park is divided into three areas: the Pineta Sacchetti, flat with hundreds of stone pine trees up to 30 meters high, the Valle dell'Inferno, an extended valley that extends east to Monte Ciocci, and the Parco delle Mimose, located above the Valle dell'Inferno and used as an equipped park. The Pineto Urban Regional Park is the natural habitat of about 650 species of plants and over 70 species of birds.

Monte Mario Nature Reserve

Highlight • Forest

Due to its environmental characteristics, the territory of the Monte Mario Nature Reserve represents a true mosaic of biological diversity which is now rare in Rome. The reserve includes some historic villas including Villa Mazzanti and Villa Mellini, where the so-called Terrazza dello Zodiaco is located, the highest point in Rome (139 meters above sea level). In fact, here is the astronomical observatory of Rome.
