Terrace of Infinity

Highlight • Viewpoint

Terrazzo Dell'infinito, Ravello, Italy 🇮🇹

The Terrazzo dell'Infinito, or Terrace of Infinity, is arguably the most famous viewpoint in Ravello, and for good reason. Perched dramatically on a cliff edge, it offers breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Amalfi Coast, stretching from the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea to the rugged mountains.

Lined with ancient busts, the terrace itself is a work of art, inviting contemplation and offering an unforgettable backdrop for photographs. Visiting during the early morning or late afternoon can provide the best light and fewer crowds, allowing for a more serene experience.

To fully appreciate the beauty of the Terrace of Infinity, consider arriving via a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of Ravello. The walk itself is part of the experience, offering glimpses of quaint shops, local artisans, and stunning architecture.

Once you're there, take your time to soak in the views and truly absorb the serene atmosphere. It's a place that encourages you to pause and reflect, a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

For those planning a visit, be sure to wear comfortable shoes as Ravello is built on a hillside with many steps and inclines. It’s also wise to check the opening hours of Villa Cimbrone, where the terrace is located, as these can vary seasonally.

Combining your visit with a exploration of the Villa's extensive gardens is highly recommended, as they offer numerous hidden gems and equally stunning, albeit different, perspectives of the coastline.

Villa Cimbrone Gardens

Highlight • Historical Site

The Villa Cimbrone is located in a large, public park on a protruding rock, about 350 m above sea level. The Scot Ernest William Beckett had a 12th-century Palazzo remodel in 1904 and create a garden. Today, the villa houses a small luxurious hotel. Beckett (Lord Grimthorp) died in 1917 and is buried in the small temple in the garden. Access to the garden is through a cloister, with a fountain in the middle. On one side, the flower garden extends with its lavish splendor, between which numerous copies of Roman art are placed. In other areas of the garden, ancient trees provide shade. The belvedere, an observation platform with a balustrade with marble busts, is located at the end of the garden, directly above the cliff sloping down to the sea and offers an incomparable view on clear days, reaching Capri on one side and Paestum on the other. Cloister at Villa Cimbrone

Highlight • Monument

The cloister is a courtyard in the Arab-Sicilian-Norman style. Above the arch supported by two mighty columns, two boar heads recall the heraldic coat of arms of Lord Grimthorpe. Partly collapsed, it was rebuilt in its original design and enriched with sacred and profane decorative elements. Among these: the seven Deadly Sins, the Nine Norman Warriors, the Deposition and a ceramic tile by Luca della Robbia.

Ravello Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

With its white façade and simple bell tower, Ravello's Duomo (Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and San Pantaleone) is modest by Italian standards. Highlights are the inscribed bronze doors and a remarkable pulpit supported by six marble lions and adorned with bird and dragon mosaics.
